Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch
Kirby has to be one of the most loveable characters ever created, a cute, pink ball with stubby arms who never complains about saving the world again and again. The tough puff may need some friends this time to save the day though, in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch, which features couch co-op 1-4 multiplayer throughout the whole adventure. This is a remake of a Wii game that some people will be familiar with, some will have never heard of and others will have played in passing.
The story of the game is that an alien spaceship called Lor Starcutter has crash-landed on Kirby’s home planet, Planet Popstar. When Kirby and his friends go to investigate, they find an alien called Magolor who needs Kirby’s help to find the ship pieces and energy spheres that have been scattered across the planet. So, Kirby and Co set off to find the lost pieces.
Whether you have or you haven’t tried it before, there’s no doubt that now is the perfect time to play this gem. While it hasn’t been that long since the last Kirby game, Kirby and the Forgotten Land followed by Kirby’s Dream Buffet, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is a very different type of game compared to those two in terms of its design and gameplay. In addition, in a recent Nintendo Direct Nintendo announced the game will have the new Magolor Epilogue, an extra mode unlockable after completing story mode containing a bunch of extra levels starring Magolor.
A Cooperative Side-scrolling 2.5-D Adventure
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe (24-2-23) is a fun 2.5-D side-scrolling adventure that is best played with friends. It will feature the same gameplay and story as the original game, but of course, now with a plethora of cool additions and bonus content. That means the game is probably worth replaying even if you have played it before—it will feel fresh like a new Kirby game.
Fun New Copy Abilities
One new feature of the game is that Kirby can gain a host of new copy abilities—power-ups gained after inhaling an enemy. An especially intriguing new copy ability is the Mecha ability, which turns Kirby into an awesome robot. Using this ability, Kirby will be able to shoot lasers from afar and attack enemies with a powerful punch. Basically, you can turn Kirby into an epic beast.
Another interesting new copy ability is the sand copy ability, which will give Kirby the chance to manipulate the environment into a protective shelter or blast enemies with granular attacks. The main role of the sand copy ability is to guard Kirby against incoming blows and then emerge with a high-rising attack.
Graphics Overhaul
As well as containing a lot of new features, the graphics of the game have been given a complete overhaul so that it looks beautiful on the Nintendo Switch. Character models have been updated and various visual improvements have been made to ensure that Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe feels very much like a modern game. Thanks to the graphical capabilities of the Switch, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is surely going to be one of the most stunning games in the Kirby franchise.
But it’s not just the graphics that have been redone. The music has been remastered, controls have been upgraded and new features have been added so that the game is overall greatly improved.
Play Epic Multiplayer Mini Games
Besides the main adventure, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe also includes a new area where Kirby and up to three other players can play awesome party mini-games. It’s called Merry Magoland and it is an amusement park that offers various amusing games you can try out when you need a break from the main adventure. From playing tennis with bombs to a Wild West-esque showdown, there is a lot of fun to be had here. You’ll certainly want to bring some friends along!
