Some crypto vouchers are no longer available, but why?!

Why some crypto is not available anymore

You may already have noticed that some crypto products are no longer available. This is due to the new MiCA rules that have been in force within the European Union since 1 July 2026. Under these new regulations, not all providers of products such as crypto vouchers are still allowed to offer their products.
In this blog we explain what the MiCA rules mean, why some vouchers have disappeared and which ones are still available.

Why are some vouchers no longer available?

You have probably already noticed that the range of crypto gift cards has become smaller recently. This is due to the new EU rules for these gift cards. Since 1 July 2026, companies offering crypto services, such as vouchers, have been required to hold a MiCA licence (“Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation” licence); this is also known as a CASP licence (“Crypto-Asset Service Provider” licence). Only companies that comply with these rules may continue to offer crypto products. As a result, some crypto vouchers can no longer be offered at all and some have only temporarily disappeared from the market. Products that are no longer available include: Binance, Bitnovo, BitJeton and Azteco. These providers may return once they comply with the new European regulations.

New European regulations require providers to comply

What exactly is MiCA?

MiCA stands for “Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation”, it is legislation adopted within the European Union to make the crypto market safer, more transparent, but also more reliable and sustainable. Previously, each country had its own rules, MiCA creates a single set of rules for crypto regulation. The new regulations are also intended to do the following:

  • Protect consumers.
  • Combat fraud and other illegal activities.
  • Create greater transparency.
  • Create uniform European rules for crypto.

Companies offering crypto products must be able to show that they handle customers’ crypto assets carefully, manage risks and comply with strict legislation, before they are granted a licence. For customers of these companies, this means greater certainty when buying and managing crypto.

Which crypto vouchers can still be purchased?

A number of well-known crypto providers are (temporarily) off the market, but you can still buy crypto gift cards easily, quickly and safely. At the moment, Gamecardsdirect still offers the following products:

These products come from providers that currently comply with the MiCA guidelines and can therefore still be sold safely. Through these providers, you can still buy crypto easily and safely.

Crypto Voucher
GiftMe Crypto

Are there any alternatives?

Yes, because in addition to the crypto vouchers that are still available at the moment you can also purchase a Rewarble Crypto gift card. You redeem a Rewarble voucher, which you can then use for a crypto payout. This gives you an alternative way to obtain cryptocurrency.
Please note: Rewarble Crypto products are currently not available in the Netherlands.

Will other crypto vouchers eventually return?

That is certainly possible, because many providers are currently working on obtaining MiCA authorisation. Once these companies meet the requirements they may offer their services within the EU again. The range of gift cards will therefore eventually start to grow again.

What does MiCA mean for you as a consumer?

For many customers, hardly anything changes. You can still buy crypto, but the range is temporarily more limited because many providers are working on obtaining MiCA authorisation. Eventually, many providers will therefore return to the market. When you choose a provider with MiCA authorisation, you choose crypto that is safe, but also reliable and protected by European Union regulations.

The bottom line

Some crypto vouchers are temporarily unavailable due to the introduction of European MiCA legislation that applies to all countries in the European Union. Many providers that do not yet have this authorisation are currently working on obtaining it and will eventually return to the market. You can still buy reliable crypto, such as Crypto Voucher and GiftMe Crypto. You can also choose an alternative route with Rewarble Crypto gift cards. In the (near) future, more companies will comply with MiCA regulations, allowing them to return to the market.
