Call of Duty: Modern Warfare introduces the Battle Pass

Upcoming Friday October 25, 2019, the new (read: soft reboot) of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Just like previous, we have been patiently awaiting news on Call of Duty Points and loot boxes. But Infinity Ward has made a last-minute announcement. Loot boxes will be pushed aside to make room for the Battle Pass; a seasonal subscription with which you can unlock new content! Of course, the system isn’t new, because popular games Fortnite and Apex Legends have been working with this system for a while. We sure are pleasantly surprised that the Call of Duty franchise has decided to follow this path, especially after the controversy on microtransactions lately.

What you can expect from the Call of Duty Battle Pass

The Call of Duty Battle Pass is not the same as the Season Pass, a DLC with which you get extra map packs like in previous COD games. New maps will be added to the game after release for free even without the Battle Pass. The items you can get with the Battle Pass will be purely cosmetic and will not influence the gameplay. In addition, the new Battle Pass will show you exactly what you will get. This is, in comparison to loot boxes (surprise mechanics), a big change that many gamers can appreciate.

Costs of the Battle Pass

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, two Battle Passes will be available; the free Battle Pass and the Premium Battle Pass. The first is, like the name suggests, free, but the price of the Premium Battle Pass is still unknown. As soon as the price has been revealed, we will update this blog post. We expect the costs of the Premium Battle Pass to be similar to other games, so around 10 euro.

When is the Battle Pass for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare available?

The Battle Pass is unfortunately not available together with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The reason for this is that Infinity Ward wants the first impression to be the best. All players get equal chances to completely explore the full game and unlock the rewards you get with the base game. The first season of the Battle Pass system of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is expected to be released later this year 2019.
