Throne and Liberty - the Next Generation’s World of Warcraft?
What kind of game is Throne and Liberty?
Throne and Liberty is the latest game from popular developer NCSoft, famous for their games Lineage II and Guild Wars 2. It is a open world MMORPG with a focus on PVE, though ther will be many chances for PVP encounters, entirely optional. The open beta has been recently concluded, so we know the game is almost ready and will most probably meet its scheduled September release. The story takes place in the world of Solistium, where both would-be world conqueror Kazar and the free people of the Resistance search for the fragments of the Star of Sylaveth in order to gain power.
The game world also has an incredible dynamic weather system that will affect gameplay. For example, high winds alter the projectiles of ranged weapons and rainy weather affects some spells like thunder-based ones. This will provide a whole new layer of strategy that has never been attempted before in this depth.
Is it true that there will be no classes in Throne and Liberty?
Unlike many MMORPGs, Throne and Liberty features a classless combat system. This might seem like a negative, but it actually offers the player a lot more flexibility. Instead of being forced to choose between a mage or a paladin or whatever at the start of the game—when you barely even know what they mean—the game allows you to change your playing style throughout the whole game. In Throne and Liberty, the role of the player is determined by their chosen weapon, meaning the player always has a great deal of freedom. A unique feature of this game is that player character will have the power to morph into animals to access new skills and traversal options. Why march through the swamp in full armor when you can soar over it as an eagle?
Does Throne and Liberty Support PvP?
It’s inevitable that some players of Throne and Liberty will be more interested in PvE (player versus environment) and others more intrigued by the PvP (player versus player) gameplay. An interesting thing about combat in Throne and Liberty is that PvP combat will be entirely optional. The vast majority of zones in Throne and Liberty will be safe. However, during regional events and boss raids and so on, PvP may be turned on. Players can check the scheduled events of the zone they’re in and choose whether they’d like to participate.
The world of Throne and Liberty consists of many diverse regions with their own fascinating backstories, and the competitions are based on these. There will also be guilds to join in Throne and Liberty. In battles, players have the opportunity to fight for their guild over the control of so-called possession stones. The developer promised that monetization will of course be present, but it will never be a pay-to-win model, rather a play-to-win. So we can expect most premium items to be purely cosmetic and not game-changing.
On What Platforms Is The Game Being Released?
Throne and Liberty is coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 17th. Throne and Liberty has been developed over many years, so the developers have put great care into ensuring the user experience works well depending on each platform. The servers have also been optimised to support a huge number of players.
