What kind of game is Avowed for Xbox Series X|S and Windows?

Avowed is the newest open-world RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind critically successful games, including Grounded, Pillars of Eternity, and Pentiment. Taking place in the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity games, this game presents a deeply immersive world packed with lore for players to discover. Avowed is an exclusive release for Xbox and Windows at launch, with no plans to port it to other platforms. On top of that, it is releasing Day 1 on Game Pass Ultimate - a huge score for subscribers.

What are the plot and gameplay of Avowed?

You play as an emissary of the Aedyr Empire, dispatched to the remote Living Lands to uncover the source of the Dreamscourge, a mysterious disease that turns living beings into mottled, shambling fungal monsters. But this land is much more than it seems; as you discover long-hidden truths, the choices you make will determine the fate of the Living Lands. Avowed emphasizes player choice, and that extends to free roleplaying - saving a wounded soldier versus looting his corpse after letting him die, for example. Just remember, your AI buddies might not like everything you do.
From a gameplay aspect, Avowed can be compared to Skyrim, but with a more modern and polished finish. A loose homage to Bethesda’s legendary RPG, it compresses the whole into a tightly wound world of colorful personalities, significant decisions, and meaningful goings-on. Avowed is shaping up to be one of the best open-world RPGs of this generation, with immersive storytelling and deep RPG mechanics.
