What is New World: Aeternum for Xbox Series X|S?
New World Aeternum is the new spectacular action RPG from Amazon Games for the Xbox Series X|S. It is “new” in the sense that it is the first time it is available on console and its mechanics have been updated to work as an action RPG, but PC players may recognize the MMORPG New World that they've been playing since 2021. The environment and the world lore are largely untouched from their previous incarnation, while the gameplay and many details have been updated and improved to provide an optimal experience to console players.
The story behind the game is as simple as it is intriguing. You were a sailor on a ship heading to Aeternum, a mysterious island apparently full of magic ripe for the taking. But your ship sank in a storm and you are the only person aboard who survived, while all your crewmates have been turned to mindless zombie-like beings by the Corruption, a mysterious evil force present on the island. After a while you get killed, but soon come back to life because death does not exist on Aeternum. The many people living on the island all come from different times and places, like ancient Romans, Spanish Conquistadores or Imperial Chinese pirates. It is in this setting that you will try to pacify the several factions of Aeternum and put an end to the Corruption.
What kind of game is New World: Aeternum?
This game was originally released as a MMORPG for Windows. With the latest update, Aeternum, the mechanics of the game were changed from the classic multiplayer action common to many MMORPGs to a more streamlined Action RPG experience, more appealing to single players looking for a nice story-driven adventure. There is no meaningful difference between playing the updated version on Windows or the console edition. In both versions, you will wield bladed weapons, firearms and magic to dispose of your enemies and progress the story. The progress is designed for solo play, but it’s possible to group with some friends or even engage in PVP activity to a certain extent. If multiplayer is your goal, you will be happy to know that cross-play is enabled, so you can play with friends who run their game on a PlayStation or on PC. You will need a Game Pass subscription to play online.
