Sentenced to Be a Hero

In this world, death is not the end of all. Quite the contrary, when criminals sentenced to fight against demonic forces finally die, they get resurrected so they can keep on fighting. But resurrection has a price, every time they lose a part of their self. Xylo Forbartz doesn’t want to lose any part of himself, so he is desperate not to die, while he keeps fighting demons with his assigned goddess. It is a grim tale of revenge and desperation, and one of the most interesting new anime this season.

Champignon Witch

Luna is a Black Witch, shunned by people in a world that adores White Witches. She is not evil, quite the opposite: she is kind and caring, but her natural affinity for poisonous mushrooms (they sprout everywhere near her) and the fact that even her skin is poisonous make her a danger to humans. One day she falls in love with a man, but how can the two be together when even a little touch can mean death for the human? A bittersweet fairytale by Higuchi Tachibana, the author of Alice Academy.

Kaya-chan isn't Scary

Kaya is seen as a problematic child, always getting into trouble with other children at the kindergarten. Unbeknownst to most other people, she is actually a very powerful psychic with the ability to see and destroy evil spirits, which other people cannot perceive. In reality Kaya is always defending the other kids from the spirits, but since no one else can see them she gets blamed for everything. With something truly bad coming, will Kaya be able to protect everyone else?

Roll over and Die

When the Demon King threatens the world, a party of heroes must be formed to fight it. Flum Apricot is called to join this team, but she is quickly betrayed and discarded when it becomes apparent that her stats are zero and she is no use. In her darkest moment, fighting a monster, she grabs a cursed sword and her true power, “Reversal”, awakens. With the ability to turn negative stats into positive ones, she now possesses a powerful weapon and can start to rebuild her life. A tale of desperation turning to hope.

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk

Yoi Takiguchi, a tall, deep-voiced girl is often mistaken for a boy and nicknamed “Prince”, and even has other girls falling for her. Her life shifts when she meets Kohaku Ichimura, another “prince-like” student who truly sees her for who she is. An impactful meeting turns into friendship and mutual interest, maybe becoming something more while the two princes slowly show their real selves to each other. Their growing bond blends gentle emotion with heartfelt self-discovery.

Hana-Kimi

Hana-Kimi, which is short for “Hanazakari no Kimitachi e” (For You in Full Blossom) was a popular shojo manga in the late ‘90s. Curiously, it never received an anime adaptation… until now. Mizuki Ashiya is a Japanese girl living in the USA until she gets such a crush on a young Japanese athlete that she moves back to Japan and enrols at the same school he attends. An all-male school! Mizuki disguises herself as a boy and tries to fit in, which surely leads to many embarrassing situations. A classic shojo manga now animated.
