Sea of Thieves Season Eight - What’s New?
Sea of Thieves in 2022
Sea of Thieves is one of the best pirate games ever, set in the vast open ocean with endless islands and underwater kingdoms to explore. You can go where you want, with who you want, and basically do what you want in this fascinating world of pirates. There are endless optional objectives and side quests to complete in Sea of Thieves’ immersive game world, such as fishing and finding mysterious buried treasures. Since Sea of Thieves launched in 2018, Rare has been updating the game with so-called seasons every few months, most recently with Season 8 last month. Check out what’s new in Season 8 below:
On-demand PvP
Season 8’s biggest innovation is undoubtedly PvP On Demand. Now, you can easier than ever go head-to-head with other pirate crews in battles to decide who will rule the seas. Starting a PvP match is a pretty cool process. The Hourglass of Fate can be used to choose either of two factions: Pirate Lord’s Guardians of Fortune or Flameheart’s Servants of the Flame.
Choose your Faction and Fight on the High Seas
Once your faction is selected, your ship will sink underwater like the Flying Dutchman. When the ship and crew are ready for battle, your ship will resurface alongside the enemy ships. The hourglass increases in value with each PvP victory, which can be exchanged for gold when you're done battling other players. However, the more valuable the hourglass, the more attractive your ship becomes as a target. You will quickly find yourself attracting other PvP hunters who want to try to earn from the wreckage.
How Does On-demand PvP Work In Sea of Thieves?
Sea of Thieves’ on-demand PvP works by match-matching you against other players who want to fight you. Instead of searching for crews of other pirates on the open seas, you can now join pirate battles immediately by selecting this feature. Basically, all PVP on Demand does in Sea of Thieves is make it much easier to find another pirate crew to fight with.
These new features make PvP optional and much faster to start than before. You can easily join a faction to side with either the Pirate Lord’s Guardians of Fortune or Flameheart’s Servants of the Flame. And after pledging allegiance, you can continue the game as normal: complete voyages, take on the megalodon, or do whatever else you like. Alternatively, if you prefer you can always jump straight into battle. It’s ultimately up to the player.
What are The Benefits of On-Demand PvP?
Destroying enemy ships in a row increases your Allegiance, and if you sink four or more ships in a row, you become the faction’s champion! However, that means any nearby players will be able to see you, and knocking you out will give you a bigger boost than normal. You will become an attractive target for aspiring pirates trying to quickly make a name for themselves.
