Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is the remastered and updated version of the 2010 Wii game of the same title (without the HD part), which in turn was a remake of the Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country released in 1994. This was the first game with Donkey Kong playing as the game platforming hero, when until then he had only appeared as a barrel-throwing villain in Mario games and had occasionally engaged in kart racing.
Donkey Kong’s stash of bananas has been stolen, so DK and his friend Diddy Kong embark on a perilous journey on their tropical island to catch the thieves and retrieve the precious stash. Players control Donkey Kong, with Diddy tagging along as a support character, but in co-op each player can control one of the apes.
