What is Pokémon?

Pokémon is one of the most famous game series ever, also thanks to the extremely popular cartoon show based on it. Who has never seen or heard of Pikachu? The main goal of the game is to catch all the Pokémon (Pocket Monsters) in the game, training them to become effective in battles against even more powerful Pokémon. Players can face powerful trainers in game, and battle against other players, also exchanging Pokémons to complete the collection. So far there have been 9 generations of Pokémon games, each adding new capturable critters, and the overall list now counts more than 1000 Pokémon scattered among all the games.

What is Pokémon Brilliant Diamond?

Brilliant Diamond is a 2021 remake of the 4th generation Pokémon Diamond, released for the Nintendo DS in 2007 and widely regarded as one of the best Pokémon games ever, together with its “twin” Pokémon Pearl (which also enjoyed a Switch remake with Pokémon Shining Pearl). This is a pretty faithful recreation of the original game with modern graphics and mechanics, and as such it does not include several features commonly found in more modern games. But its relative simplicity is also one of its greatest strengths, allowing players to relive (or discover) a jewel of years ago, when catching Pokémon was a more direct endeavor without the level of sophistication introduced in later generations.
At the beginning of the game players can choose their starter Pokémon from these three:

• Turtwig: Grass type
• Chimchar: Fire type
• Piplup: Water type

Which new Pokémon are included in this game?

Brilliant Diamond includes some exclusive Pokémon that cannot be found in Shining Pearl, like Cranidos and Stunky, and is of course missing Pearl’s exclusive monsters. The only way to obtain them all is to exchange them with other players (or owning both versions of the game). Diamond's Legendary Pokémon is Dialga, a Steel/Dragon type with the ability to control time itself.

Can I play Brilliant Diamond online?

The game itself is mostly single-player, but there are activities that involve online play. You can interact with Trainers all over the world to battle and exchange Pokémon, or go adventuring together in the Grand Underground. It’s also possible to dig for Fossils together with other Trainers. A Nintendo Switch Online subscription is needed to access all online functionalities.
