Doom - The Dark Ages for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 is the next new third-person title in the modern Doom series initiated by Doom (2016) and followed by Doom Eternal. The war against Hell comes to a conclusion in Eternal, but The Dark Ages takes a daring step backward in time. Taking place between the events of Doom 3 and Doom (2016), the game portrays an entirely new side of the Doom Slayer. Here he’s less a nimble assassin and more an indestructible juggernaut - a genuine tank in human form. This variation is reflected in the gameplay. The fast-paced jumps and dashes are gone. Instead, you’re rewarded with a slow, methodical style with combat. You don’t run - you stride. You don’t dodge - you take, break, and vaporize everything that stands in your path.
What are the new features in Doom - The Dark Ages?
This new Doom game is not fast paced like the previous entries. Instead, the combat is slow and deliberate, the Doom Slayer an unstoppable armored machine of destruction. This installment introduces a more down-to-earth and harder-hitting style of play, as well as a new assortment of brutal weapons and tools:
- Skull Crusher - A devastating shotgun that shoots fragments of skulls from slain enemies.
- Shield Saw - A serrated shield that can stop attacks or be tossed through enemies like a buzzsaw.
- Atlan - A gigantic 30-storey mech designed to fight and annihilate Titans.
- Cyber Dragon - A fire-breathing mount that can fly and attack enemies from the air.
