FIFA 22: kick-off ins and outs

With the football season coming to an end and the Transfer Market being wide and open, it is time to prepare for a brand new FIFA 22. There are plenty of rumours to ponder over, not to mention the closed beta leaks. Let’s kick off and take a look at what we know for sure and what rumors are yet to be confirmed (or not).

When is the release of FIFA 22?

First things first: FIFA 22 is planned to be released on October 1st. There is no reason to believe that there will be major delays this year. On July 22th, it is very likely that more features and details regarding the release will be presented at EA Play Live.

As always, different editions will be released for different prizes. Below you will find an overview of all the editions and console versions:

Console Standard Edition Champions Edition Ultimate Edition
PlayStation €59,95 €79,95 €89,95
Xbox €59,95 €79,95 €89,95
PC €59,95 €79,95 €89,95

For Google Stadia it is unknown what the price will be. For Nintendo, the price will likely be the same as FIFA 21 when it first appeared on Nintendo Switch (€49,99).

FIFA 22: the top 3 rumours

There are different rumors that were leaked during the closed beta, such as game techniques and statistics. Let’s take a look at the top 3 rumors.

New game techniques. In FIFA 22, it should be easier to switch to another player even when you don't have ball possession, as reported by FIFA insider @KingLangpard on Twitter. In addition, it would become more difficult to put pressure on a second defender. In previous editions, it was a good tactic to manually defend the lines of play and hold a button in order to have a computer-controlled defender run towards the ball. According to some rumours, this will only be possible for a few seconds in FIFA 22.

Statistics. If you love numbers and statistics, then we got the perfect news for you. In FIFA 22, there will be most likely two metrics added to the game that were long overdue. The first one is a heatmap that makes you able to check the movement of players on the field. The second one is ‘expected goals’. This feature makes it possible to check probability calculations of goals you are planning to make.

Next-gen console performances. In addition to cleaner graphics and a higher resolution, the next-gen version is said to be able to display 120 frames per second. This ensures that the action is very seamlessly displayed on your screen. However, this requires a screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and not everyone has this type of screen.

In one small respect, FIFA 22 is less "complete" than its predecessor. The official name and logo of Atalanta will be missing. The Italian club has signed an exclusive deal with Konami's rival PES 2022. Previous deals have included Juventus, who are called Piedmont Calcio in FIFA.

FUT Heroes

In FIFA 22, new FUT mechanics will be added. One of them is FUT Heroes. These are players who have never been the best of the best, but they have "a unique league-specific team spirit linked to their specific heroic moment, providing a green club link with every player in the same league, as well as the usual country link, giving the gamer new ways to build their dream squad and recreate some of the most famous football moments in FUT 22", according to EA.com.

Some of the FUT Heroes that are publicly known are Mario Gomez, Tim Cahill, Diego Milito, Jorge Campos, Fernando Morientes, Sami Al-Jaber, Robbie Keane, Abedi Pele and Clint Dempsey. In August, more FUT Heroes will be announced.

Cancellation closed beta of FIFA 22

The leaks coming from the closed beta have stirred up the FIFA community. Some new features were made publicly available without the permission of EA. There were details exposed regarding gameplay, FIT Champs Weekend League and new custom tactics. One of the people that leaked information, shared an in-game screenshot, confirming many rumours and other leaks.

EA communicated that sharing content and in-game footage is prohibited. Play-testers have been informed regarding the decision of EA via email. FIFA fans are worried that closing the closed beta prematurely will have negative consequences for the rest of the beta period.
