Immortals of Aveum | PS5

The Everwar is a long-term war for the control of magic on Aveum. Players control Jak, a humble thief in the Lucium kingdom, who possesses the extremely rare ability to wield all three colors of magic and is quickly recruited in the Order of the Immortals to fight against the kingdom or Rasharn. The game is basically a single-player FPS, set in a fantasy world and with magic instead of guns. You shoot different kinds of magic from your hands, with a good degree of customization, and can unlock several upgrades during the game, like the ability to pull enemies to you or to hover after a jump. Immortals of Aveum is graphically excellent, and blasting enemies with magic is… well, a blast! Definitely a great addition to the PSPlus free games!

Minecraft Legends | PS4, PS5

Minecraft Legends is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game set in the Minecraft universe. It lacks the deeper complexities of bigger strategy games, but its strength is in its simplicity and streamlined content. It doesn’t do too many things, but what it does is excellent. A great way to introduce new players to the RTS genre, and a nice pastime that won’t have you screaming in frustration. The story is overly simple: Piglins are invading and you have to survive their assault, by collecting resources, defending your settlements and destroying Piglin bases. You do that by riding around the map with a small groups of followers, which can be of different kinds and with different abilities, and issue basic commands like “attack that” or “charge”.

Skul: The Hero Slayer | PS4

Those pesky humans! They invaded the demon realm and kidnapped the demon king. It’s up to you, as a lowly skeleton underling, to explore the five realms, defeat the heroes and rescue your king. You can do that by finding and equipping different heads, which will grant you a whole new set of abilities and powers. One moment you can be a sorcere summoning fire from the heavens, and a moment later you can become a mighty warrior able to summon underlings to help you in combat. Skul is a difficult game, as most roguelikes usually are, but it is thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish, with lots of options to change your playstyle and try out new builds.
