Onimusha: Way of the Sword for Xbox X/S is a fantastic single-player action game with both adventure and melee elements, from world-renowned game developer CAPCOM, combining exciting samurai battles with horror elements. You play as the Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi in historical Japan. You travel to Kyoto, a city under attack by the Genma. Armed with your samurai sword and the Oni Gauntlet, a type of armoured glove, you take on enemies that will send shivers down your spine.
This Onimusha title is packed with intense sword fights, which will put skills such as your timing and attacking abilities to the test. You will also need to absorb the souls of the Genma you defeat to take on increasingly powerful enemies. In short: this release places you in a historical Japanese setting, where you will have to react quickly to destroy large hordes of Genma, while also encountering plenty of horror along the way.
The story of this title
You find yourself in Kyoto at the beginning of the Edo period. This normally vibrant city has been transformed into a dark place. The Genma have taken over the city and have even unleashed demons to keep Kyoto under their control. You are Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai who comes into possession of the Oni Gauntlet, giving him supernatural powers. He never asked for this powerful gauntlet, which is why he sets out in search of answers; this leads to a bloody battle involving Miyamoto, the Oni Gauntlet and the Genma.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword features the samurai sword as its main weapon, which you must use not only to fight your enemies, but also while carefully watching their moves. You need to dodge attacks, perform well-timed counters, and find a way to survive the battle. A very important part of combat is “Issen”, also known as a “parry” in other games. When you time everything correctly then you can deal greater damage to your enemies. You can also use your Gauntlet to absorb the souls of your enemies. You can use the stolen souls to upgrade your skills. It is a balance between attacking, but also strategically considering how best to approach each situation.
