What is Screamer?

Screamer is the new, very stylistic racing game from Milestone, the developers of acclaimed racing franchises like MotoGP and Ride. In Screamer you will ride futuristic cars in several environments, from lush forests to a neon-lit nighttime city. Absolute realism and perfect reproduction of real cars is not something you will find in this game! Screamer is heavily geared towards arcade racing, with a bunch of special Overdrive effects and simplified yet responsive controls. The goal is to be the first to reach the goal sign, but if you smash a few opponents along the way with a well-placed Overdrive, all the better!

How is this game different from others?

Screamer oozes personality, with fully customizable cars that look straight from a ‘90s enthusiast’s dream to detailed characters in anime style, each with their own personality and backstory. You can choose from 5 teams, each composed by a Leader and 2 Members. The Leader’s car has more powerful passive abilities, but it’s more difficult to control, while Members’ cars are easier but less powerful. Once you have chosen your rider, it’s time to race! The controls are rather unconventional, with the left stick assigned to steering as usual but drifting is controlled by the right stick, while the bumper buttons are used to activate boosts and other effects. It may take a few races to get used to the controls, but once you get the hang of it, driving becomes very intuitive and responsive.

But driving fast is only a part of the game. While racing you accumulate Sync, a resource you can spend to get a boost. And boosting rewards you with Entropy, another resource that lets you enter Overdrive. That increases your speed dramatically and gives your car a SuperSaiyan-like aura, which will send any car you ram into flying (unless they have a shield active). So races are a delicate balance of going fast, drifting when needed, ramming other cars with Overdrive and shielding yourself from other cars’ attacks. That sums up to a lot of fun!

Which teams are in the game?

Players can choose from five different teams, for a total of 15 different drivers:

• Green Reapers (Hiroshi Jackson, Frederic Barthelemy, and Róisín Garrity): Former military contractors driven by revenge for their former teammate.
• Strike Force Romanda (Ritsuko Imai, Akane Hyuga, and Hina Yamano): An idol group turned to racing to climb back in popularity.
• Jupiter Stormers (Aisha Waghmare, Lavinia Ricci Antinori, and Gregor Falkenstein): Scientists and astronauts racing to prove their company is top in all fields.
• Anaconda Corp (Gabriel Mertens, Hope Kaminsky, and Dirk van Wyk): Ruthless executives of a megacorporation, they race for wealth, power and control.
• Kagawa-Kai (Noboru Sato, Keiji Sato, and Akemi Nomura): Members of a criminal Syndicate, home to former Screamer legend Noboru Sato.

What game modes can you play?

Screamer has several game modes, both online and offline, for players to race to their hearts’ content.

• Tournament - The heart of the game, experience the tales of all racers in the Screamer tournament organized by the mysterious Mr. A.
• Race! - Race freely on any track with any driver, customizing every aspect of the race.
• Team Race - Race in a group with all your team, being rewarded for final position, actions performed and KOs executed. Play alone or online with friends.
• Score Challenge - Climb the leaderboards by winning races, facing challenges and defeating difficult bosses.
• Overdrive Challenge - Race in Overdrive mode for as long as you can. If you touch a wall, you will explode spectacularly!
• Checkpoints - Reach all checkpoints before the timer runs out.
• Time Attack - Get the best overall time in three attempts.
• Multiplayer - Challenge your friends or other racers online. Local multiplayer available with up to 4-player splitscreen.
