What is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
Flight Simulator 2024 is the latest version of the popular franchise by Microsoft which has been running for over 40 years now. Players of all ages adore this simulation (calling it a game would be reductive) because of the realism and the sheer thrill of flying. FS 2024 features incredibly realistic graphics, with extremely detailed plane models and world data streamed directly from Bing Maps, which allows players to fly over most places in the world.
What can you do in Flight Simulator 2024?
There is only one thing to do in Flight Simulator: fly, fly, fly. But it’s easier said than done. The game has assisted options to help new pilots fly quickly, but the most fun is found in learning how to control your plane by managing all the controls and indicators, exactly like you would in a real aircraft. The simulation is so realistic and sophisticated that, should an experienced player ever find themselves in the cabin of a real aircraft, they would immediately recognize and understand everything. Warning: gaming experience does not qualify for flight practice, and players should not try piloting real aircraft without attending a proper flight school.
How many aircraft can you pilot?
The base version of the game includes 70 different aircraft and 150 hand-crafted airports (designed to closely resemble their real-life counterparts), but other versions offer more:

- Flight Simulator 2024 Deluxe Edition: 80 aircraft, 155 airports
- Flight Simulator 2024 Aviator Edition: 125 aircraft, 160 airports

Is it difficult to learn how to pilot?
Yes, it is. Just like the real thing, if you want to pilot without assistance you will need to understand the use of each and every control, have a good grasp of flight physics and be familiar with your chosen aircraft. There are dozens of them, all different from each other. Piloting a small Cessna is vastly different from being at the helm of a huge 747 with hundreds of passengers. Just think that even real pilots often use this game as a learning tool, to familiarize themselves with new aircraft and keep sharp on procedures and situational awareness. But the game has many layers of help available, so that you can proceed step by step, learning a little bit at a time. And should you fail and crash… no harm done, it’s just a game anyway!
On which gaming systems can you play Flight Simulator 2024?
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 can be played on Xbox Series X|S and Windows, and can also be purchased through Steam. The minimum specs for PC require a reasonable Ryzen 2600X or i7-6800K CPU, with 16GB RAM and Radeon RX5700 or GeForce GTX970 graphics card. Of course the higher you go the better the game will look. Recently a PlayStation 5 version was released, introducing PS players to the joys of flight. The game is regularly updated with new features, new aircraft and additional details, so you won’t grow out of it soon (or ever, given that you have the whole world at your fingertips).
Can I fly with friends?
Yes, that’s possible. Flight Simulator uses a “living world” setting, where you can choose to fly in a shared world open to anyone, with friends only, or solo. When you want to fly with friends you can meet together and share the open sky. It’s possible to try and keep formation, or simply make the decided trip together. You are free to do whatever you want, that’s the freedom of flying.
