Fine-tuning and a more tasteful style
No substantive changes are made from what was shown up until now. The extra time until release will be used for fine-tuning the game. This is the info we know so far.
The generation that played this game as teenagers knows the game as goofy, offensive, and comical. But as with all things, the franchise has matured, and the freshly rebooted Saints Row (2022) is getting a more tasteful style.
Despite the surprise reveal at Gamescom 2021, we already knew quite a bit about the new Saints Row, especially in terms of release date, story, gameplay, and more. This franchise needed a fitting reboot, especially for new fans of the game to jump in without being overwhelmed by chaotic superpowers and tyrannical aliens.
Saints Row (2022): the story
With a well-deserved reboot, Saints Row takes a step back from aliens and giant dildos to create a fresh and new beginning for the Saints Row gang. Set in the fictional city of Santo Ileso, located in the American Southwest, this story focuses on the player-character known as "The Boss."

At the beginning of the game, Santo Ileso is occupied by three gangs: Los Panteros (heavy melee fighters who prioritize physical prowess), the Idols (imagine Deadmau5 but with guns and in multiples), and Marshall Defense Industries (a private military company that provides "security" to the city - classic Ultor).
Meanwhile, the group that forms Saints Row is composed of disgruntled members of each gang. Neenah from Los Panteros - not only a mechanic but also the getaway driver, Kevin, a shirtless guy from the Idols who specializes in running heists, and Eli, a businessman who left Marshall.
Saints Row (2022): gameplay
As you might expect, the gameplay takes a step back, too, removing the superpowers and The Boss from the presidency of the United States.
Like the original, Santo Ileso is divided into nine districts that the player must take control of. The districts we know are Rancho Providencio (a rural town), El Dorado (the discounted Las Vegas), and Monte Vista (a suburban area). What is new in this game is that players can open illegal businesses as fronts in empty lots in the districts to make money.
Like other games in the franchise, character creation is available, in which you can choose the gender of the character, for example. Drop-in co-op is unique, where the second player has their own story progression, in addition to that of the main player.
Saints Row will also include an expansion pass that will receive at least three pieces of DLC after launch.
Not everyone is excited about the changes
What is noticeable in the community is that opinions on the reboot of Saints Row are divided. Some find it an obligatory "box ticking", others on the contrary are hugely enthusiastic about the changes.
