When talking about videogames for children, the first thing that usually comes to mind are games from popular kids shows. Some of those are good games, too, but many just don’t live up to the name, providing little else than the brand name and some recognisable characters. We have selected 12 games suitable for younger and older kids. For each game the PEGI rating is provided. All the games in the list are currently available on the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue, meaning if you have a subscription you can try them out (or even play them) for free. Under the colourful cartoonish graphics that kids will probably love lies a competent -albeit simple- action adventure that will see players exploring the cat world and meeting many interesting characters while fighting cute monsters and growing in power. After the time of humans, insects have evolved and are now keeping their own societies inside an old house. The player, as a tiny human visitor from another place, has to help the insects with their problems in order to collect all the parts of a device that can send him home. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2

Mix the wonderfully varied characters from Marvel with good, old-fashioned Lego action and you will get one of the best brick-inspired games of this generation. Actually all LEGO games have great gameplay (if a little repetitive) and are a great choice for kids. This one is just a little better than most.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Star of the popular Little Big Planet games, Sackboy must now embark on a brand new adventure to save his world. Lots of platforming will be involved, as well as many enemies to fight and puzzles to solve. It’s a good thing that our canvas hero isn’t afraid of anything, and can be joined by a friend for double the fun.

People have been turned into animals! It’s up to Monster Boy to bring everyone back to normal and to do so he will gain the ability to transform into several different animals. Monster Boy is a colourful and cartoonish Metroidvania game with lots of exploration and platforming, many enemies and new skills to unlock during the game.
A Hat in Time

When her Time Pieces are scattered, Hat Girl has no choice but to go and look for them. The journey will be hard and silly, but she can count on the powers of several Hats. Everything in this game is strange and a little absurd, which will make it fascinating for most kids. It’s a good action-adventure for every age.
Kingdom Hearts

Best suited to older children for its complexity, Kingdom Hearts sees Sora, Goofy and Donald Duck -along with many other characters from Disney and Final Fantasy- battling the Heartless and the Darkness. It’s a great action RPG that spawned many sequels, and while the plot can be complex, the gameplay is excellent.
