Something like the traditional Mario, but with your own levels. Choose your enemies, obstacles and rewards in Super Mario Maker 2. Make the trail of your dreams: from cannons that shoot coins, to sliding off bad guys from the map. Make a combination of different parts to create a whole new obstacle. You can create the craziest, funniest and most unique courses that you will not find in regular Super Mario games. Super Mario Maker was already a success, now it's back with brand new features and obstacle options!
Story Mode is completely new in SMM2. The castle of Peach (Aw poor Peach, again!) spontaneously disappeared in thin air. In Story Mode you change from Mario the plumber to Bob the Builder (Can we fix it? Yes we can!), because you are going to help rebuild the castle. The Toads are good people, but not stupid. They need Coins for rebuilding the castle. So goody two-shoes Mario is going to do everything to collect the required Coins.

In SMM 2 you can go wild with all the new enemies and obstacles. For example, you can adjust the speed of the level and use transparent tubes next to the classical green pipelines. Create these see-through pipelines in your level to make it a little more challenging. Enemies also use these tubes, so be careful! Did you know you can also adjust the music per level?
Furthermore, enemies are also upgraded! Have you seen the Piranha Creeper already? Make the Piranha Creeper as long as you need it to be and put it in the craziest places! If you can think it, you can make it.
Super Mario Maker 2 also introduces an important tool:: the Koopa Troopa Car, which suddenly turns your SMM 2 level into a go-kart track.
If you really want to become really good and go deep with the difficulty of your levels, you can first take a few lessons in Yamamoto’s Dojo.
In SMM 2 there are so many worlds to choose from, which one are you going to start with? You can choose from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3, Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. YOU. Once you have chosen the world, you can choose a theme. Do you like wandering around in castles or exploring ghost mansions? The following themes are available in Super Mario Maker 2: Desert, Snow, Forest and Air.
You can also adjust the rules to your liking. Customize the goal the way you want it. Have you always been bad at reaching that Goal Pole (yep, guilty!), then you can set another goal for completing a level. For example collecting 50 coins or defeating all Dry Bones.
Forget Nyan cat, here is Mario cat! Explore Super Mario 3D world in cat form. Climb on walls, crab enemies and sneak your way through it. Who doesn’t like Mario cat form?

A free update to Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch added World Creating Mode, along with mountains of new content and other features. In Creating Worlds mode, multiple homemade levels can be connected by creating a path from the starting point to the castle. The appearance of a world can also be changed. Players can combine up to eight worlds, consisting of up to 40 levels, allowing them to create and share a small Super Mario game (to share this content, you need Nintendo Online).
Guess who else will make their appearance in Super Mario Maker 2? The Koopalings! All seven scramblers, each with his or her own attacks, can be added to your levels. In addition to these rascals, Phanto and the Mechakoopas are also added.
Also, as part of the free update, new power-ups and level elements were added to Super Mario Maker 2. These include the Mushroom (SMB2), which allows Mario and his friends to get their appearances altered in Super Mario Bros. 2. They can also pick up enemies and throw them away, just like in the original game. With the frog suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario can easily swim and even walk across the water. Other power-ups added to the game include the P-balloon, which debuted in Super Mario World, the Super Acorn from New Super Mario Bros. U and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D World. The latter also includes five variations of portable items, such as the cannon box and the propeller box.
In Course World you can now play online with others. There are different co-op levels: local multiplayer and online multiplayer. You need a Nintendo Switch Online Membership to play online, download levels from other players and upload your own creations. With the multiplayer co-op mode you have to work together online to reach a level. Fortunately, you don't have to be the best: everyone wins if at least 1 person on your team makes it to the end.

Rumours about a new Super Mario Maker 3 have been floating around on the internet for some time, but so far that’s all they are: rumours. At the moment there is no indication of a new game in preparation at Nintendo. But we can always hope for the future…
