Apex Legends Update

Since its launch in 2019, Apex Legends has been very popular, rivalling the current Battle Royale king Fortnite. With 25 million players registered not long after launch, and the huge milestone of 100 million reached in 2021, Apex Legends is certainly one of the most popular Battle Royale games. Let’s see how it’s doing now with Season 15.

What is Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is an online Battle Royale game. Players team up in squads of 2 or 3 members and fight against other squads in an ever-contracting ring. They start with basic equipment and need to find better gear on the field. Victory is gained when only one squad is left standing. Alternatively, there’s the Arena mode, where two squads face each other in several single matches. Both modes can be played Ranked, meaning that you gain/lose ranking points depending on your results and performance.

Being a cooperative battle game, it’s imperative that squad members’ skills complement each other to minimise weaknesses and enhance strengths. Each character has its own perks, so players are always advised to find squadmates with abilities that fit well with their own.

What’s new in Season 15

Season 15 was released on November 1, 2022, and will remain live until mid-February, 2023. It included a new seasonal Battle Pass with lots of rewards, the Broken Moon map and the new Legend, Catalyst. She is a shy, defensive Legend, with the ability to manipulate ferrofluid to create dangerous spikes and protective barriers. Another nice addition to Season 15 is an update to the Firing Range. Now players can test-drive every Legend in the game and find out whether they like them before actually buying them.

Apex Legends VS Fortnite

Most seasoned players already know their favourite game, but the question in the minds of all newcomers is “should I begin playing Apex Legends or Fortnite?”. There is no definitive answer to this question, and the two games are quite different despite belonging to the same Battle Royale genre. Fortnite plays in 3rd person, puts less emphasis on skilled shooting, has building mechanics that are integral to gameplay, and is generally more geared towards messy fun. Apex Legends, on the other hand, has more “mature” looks, plays in 1st person, has well-defined characters with different skills and abilities and is more of a “pure” shooter focused on players’ skills.
So in the end it all depends on what players are looking for.

Apex Coins

Although Apex Legends is not cross-platform, it can be played on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In-game currencies are also available: Crafting Metals, Legend Tokens and Apex Coins. Apex Coins are available in the game, but you can also purchase coins if you have credit on your account. You can add credit to your account with PSN Cards for PlayStation 4 accounts, Xbox Gift Cards for Xbox One accounts or with EA Origin cards for PC. With Apex Coins you can buy specific items, characters (Mirage and Caustic) and Apex Packs. Apex Packs contain purely cosmetic items.
