South Park: The Fractured But Whole is the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning 2014 game South Park: The Stick of Truth. In this new adventure in the franchise, with a very awkward title, you can play as New Kid again to go on adventure bigger than life itself with all your favourite South Park characters, e.g. Stan, Kenny, Cartman and Kyle.
The story
Something evil has taken a hold of the snowy mountain village of South Park; a power so crude and evil that it needs superheroes to make sure that it cannot spread its evilness over the whole town. The league of superheroes which rises from the dust is led again by Coon, a superhero with night vision powers, and an incredibly strange outfit, he is an animal in disguise, or a boy, or an animal, or a…no matter what, he is brave as he can be!
Next to this impertinent evil there is some other wickedness roaming the streets of South Park, his name is Professor Chaos; this insane professor wants to break-up the league of superheroes, which calls itself ‘Coon and Friends’. The superheroes need to work together in order to remove Professor Chaos from their town.
The gameplay
You can customize your favourite heroes from their outfits, all the way to their social roots, and you can develop your superpowers to be of better service to South Park.
Gamers can play a noob again, the newbie in the superhero league. As the newest member of the Coon and Friends gang you create a whole new identity for your playable character, and by doing so you can become either famous or infamous amongst South Park’s inhabitants. By saving South Park you can earn a movie contract, which pleases Cartman as no other, because he wants to turn Coon and Friends in the biggest superhero franchise the world has ever seen.
A world on its own
Day and night will never be the same for the inhabitants of South Park, because the sun as well as the moon are of great impact on the moods of the people who inhabit the snowy grounds of this village. A new world awakens, a world in which your alter-ego rises to the occasion and battles evil to save all the inhabitants.
Your Coon and Friends club can contain up to thirteen members, of which the real Coon is the leader. You can play individually or as a team to defend South Park against the forces of evil.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole has all new gameplay which is upgraded from the previous instalment of the South Park game franchise, a far better system to gather your stolen goods, but you also manipulate time in this instalment in the South Park series. Next to this you choose crazy outfits, you make objects and you do everything to be a step ahead of evil.
The verdict
The Fractured But Whole has at least two times as many content as its award-winning predecessor in the game franchise. Apart from the fact that South Park: The Fractured But Whole deserves credits for staying true to the series’ source material, which makes these games fan must-plays, there is also enough excitement for gamers who want to have a first introduction to the games of South Park.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 17th 2017.
