The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Link's Awakening Logo

Fight against Super Mario enemies such as Goombas and Piranha Plants as a super cute chibi Link! In Link’s Awakening, you get the best of both worlds. The original version was first released for the Game Boy handheld console, 26 years ago (feel old yet?). Relive this fantastic adventure, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on 20 September 2019 for 59,99 euro.

Link's Awakening Characters

For those who are not yet familiar with the game: Link's Awakening is a classic remake of the game for the Game Boy, which was re-released for the Game Boy Color in 1998. It's not the first remake of the game, but you have to have this in your collection if you own a Nintendo Switch.

Link's awakening Goomba

No Hyrule and no Zelda

The story: Link is washed ashore on a mysterious island called Koholint, full of strange and colorful inhabitants. To get off the island, Link must collect magical instruments and wake up the Wind Fish. So you're not in Hyrule, which is an exceptional case for most of the Zelda games are set in Hyrule. Princess Zelda and the Triforce are nowhere to be found in this game.

The game contains many unique elements that were also present in the original Game Boy version, such as the platform-style dungeons and characters that are not from The Legend of Zelda series. The island itself has been faithfully taken over, with a graphical update.

The enemies you have to face include those you know from the Mario franchise! Fight Goombas, Piranha Plants and Chain Chomps to get through obstacles, mazes and dungeons.

Changes compared to the original game

To make it a little easier for the players in battles, Link's shield doesn't take up two item slots anymore. This saves you a lot of time and effort, since you don't have to change items that often anymore. Pfew!

You can also mark locations on the map to indicate your points of interest. For example, you can put a marker on the location where you saw a Heart Piece that you couldn't get a hold of earlier. The endless search and keeping notes by hand are over, so you'll easily find the items you are yet to obtain.

A new feature in Link's Awakening is the Chamber Dungeons, a kind of dungeon editor. You can find the Chamber Dungeons in Tal Tal Heights, where the Camera Shop used to be in the Game Boy Color version. With the Chamber Dungeons you can make your own dungeons. Unlock premade dungeon rooms and use them to create your own dungeons (sounds familiar, *ahem* Super Mario Maker *ahem*).
