Just like other Sims games you, as a gamer, will be the one who creates the world of your Sims and you are responsible for the reactions and choices of your Sims; you can give them their own character and (matching) appearance. With the building mode of The Sims 4 you can build exclusive virtual houses, in which you can decide everything, from the designs up to the decorations. Like in previous instalments, you can build relationships with other Sims, you can go to work and have a career, but you can also explore new neighbourhoods and even visit festivals or other events. Imagine and build a world that you can be proud of and rule over your version of Utopia.
In the beginning, The Sims 4 was just a regular retail game, costing €60 at launch for Windows in 2014 and €20 when it came to consoles in 2017. In October 2022 the game became free-to-play, so now everyone can download and play the base game for absolutely nothing. If that isn’t good news, we don’t know what is. Of course, if players want to play online they may have to pay for an online subscription service, depending on their chosen gaming platform, but that is a completely separate matter.
As we said, the game is now free, but its many DLCs are not. Over the years a lot of additional content for The Sims 4 has been created, each set coming with its own price. By purchasing the right DLC players can add items or functionalities to the main game. They could add weather and seasons to a game that would otherwise be stuck in a perpetual summer, they can create and raise children (or pets), they can attend school, graduate college, start a business or go live some grand adventure around the world.
